The Biological Sciences Student Journal, University of Bergen
For authors
Submission and genre criteria:
Contributions to Bikuben student journal can be submitted directly via the portal on this website.
Examples of genres we publish and their respective criteria can be found here, but we are open to additional genres and contributions if you have a good idea. In that case, we encourage you to contact us via mail: bikuben@uib.no.
File format:
We prefer that texts are submitted as Word-documents, to make it easier for the editors and peer reviewers to provide comments. If you have used e.g., Latex, we want you to copy it over in a Word document, but feel free to send the original document first and we will consider if the text fits in the journal before you spend time transferring the text into Word.
We also want to publish other contributions than written papers, e.g., video essays or foto galleries. These can be submitted through our portal as well. For questions regarding these contributions, send us a mail: bikuben@uib.no.
Text format:
Text formatting is not of great importance, as all text are converted to our style when they are published. It is however important that titles, subtitles and figure texts etc. are distinguishable from the body text. We encourage you to use standard font, text size and line spacing (e.g., font: Times New Roman, size: 12 and line spacing: 1.5) to make the text easy to read and understand.
Reference style:
We use the APA 7th reference style in our publications, and all text must use this style before they can be published.
Guides on how to use APA 7th can be found the here in English and here in Norwegian.
Figures:
We want all texts to include at least one figure, and we need one picture/illustration for featuring the contribution on our website. If you do not have a picture or illustration for your text, Wikimedia Commons have a large collection of free pictures covering most themes, but remember to credit the photographer(s). We can also help you make nice figures and illustrations for your work, as we have both employees and volunteers which are fluent in R, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
Other criteria:
If you have questions that are not covered here, we encourage you to contact us via mail: bikuben@uib.no.
